Reproductive medicine

Fertility care begins with understanding the whole picture: both partners, previous treatment, reproductive goals, and the evidence behind each possible next step.

Written by Dr Amber Aggrwal, MCh Reproductive Medicine (Hewitt Fertility Centre, Liverpool), DNB Obstetrics & Gynaecology. GMC 7724289 · Punjab Medical Council 43124 · Haryana Medical Council HN013500. Last reviewed: September 2026.

Assessment before treatment

I review ovarian reserve, ovulation, the uterine cavity and tubes, semen parameters, relevant endocrine factors, and the complete record of any previous cycles. The purpose is not to order every test. It is to identify which questions need answering before a plan is made.

Treatment pathways

Care may include ovulation induction, IUI, IVF, ICSI, embryo transfer, fertility preservation, or surgery where a structural problem is affecting fertility. The appropriate pathway depends on diagnosis, age, previous treatment and individual priorities.

Read how fertility treatments work, or see what is reviewed after an unsuccessful IVF cycle.

Complex fertility care

Repeated implantation failure, poor ovarian response, recurrent early pregnancy loss and unexplained infertility need a structured review rather than a longer list of add-ons. Where evidence is uncertain, I will say so.

Clinical review

This is newly drafted patient information and will be reviewed by Dr Amber Aggrwal. It explains general care and is not a personal treatment recommendation.
