Laparoscopic gynaecology
Laparoscopy uses small abdominal incisions and a camera to investigate or treat selected gynaecological conditions. The operation is chosen for the condition—not for the size of the incision alone.

Conditions commonly assessed
Laparoscopy may be considered for endometriosis, ovarian cysts, fibroids, pelvic pain, ectopic pregnancy, tubal disease and selected fertility-related problems.
Before an operation
I review symptoms, examination findings, ultrasound or other imaging, fertility plans, previous surgery and alternatives to an operation. Sometimes observation, medication or another procedure is the better first step.
Other minimally invasive approaches
Hysteroscopy treats problems within the uterine cavity without abdominal incisions. Robotic assistance may help in selected complex operations, but it is not required for routine keyhole surgery.
Clinical review
This newly drafted patient information requires Dr Amber Aggrwal's review and does not replace a surgical consultation.
